Warren P. Howe papers, 1775-1999.

Contains the following types of materials: correspondence, personnel documents, magazines, books / manuals, diary / journal. Contains information pertaining to the following wars: Revolutionary War, War of 1812. General description of the collection: The Warren P. Howe papers contain historian's papers which include two articles published by Howe on early American military music. These articles document the development of military music in the Army from the Revolutionary period through 1812. Collection also includes supporting documentation on West Point musicians: Silas Robinson, 1860-1879, Jacob Roberts, 1814-1880 and Eleazer Smith, 1835-1894. Photocopies of monthly returns and early military music documents such as the diary of Henry Blake, 1776 which contains fife tunes and Benjamin Clark's drum book, 1797 are also found. There are photocopied service records and other documentation on the following soldiers: Joe Clark; William Ellery, 1777-1790; Elijah Howe, 1780-1801; John McMichell, 1789; William Trout, 1781-1804; and John Babbitt, 1787-1846.
